CLARKSVILLE
- Austin Peay men's tennis runs its perfect OVC record through the
gauntlet, beginning with a 1 p.m., Tuesday match at Tennessee Tech.
The match, originally scheduled for last
Thursday, has now become the first of three OVC matches this week for the Govs.
Head coach Malik Tabet's team seems primed for the competition, bringing a
perfect 7-0 league mark into what will be the season's toughest stretch.
After facing Tennessee Tech, Tuesday, the Govs conclude the regular season with matches at Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State, Saturday and Sunday.
"We're really starting to show some work
ethic," Tabet said. "This team has a lot of drive and it was exciting
to see them rally behind each other during the weekend. These guys have a
chance to be really good."
It has been junior Sean Bailey and sophomore
Jasmin Ademovic leading the Govs at the top of the lineup. Bailey has won nine
matches in row, while Ademovic is 7-2 since moving to No. 2 singles.
Those two
lead a group of four Govs - Hriciste and freshman Dimitar Ristovski - with
perfect OVC records. During
OVC play, the Govs are 28-2 in singles along with a 11-3 doubles mark.
Tennessee Tech is unbeaten in league play
with a 5-0 mark, coming off a 5-2 win against Jacksonville State. The Golden
Eagles appear to one of the top contenders as OVC play winds down, led by Syrym
Abdukhalikov at No. 1 singles. Alejandro Augusto and Justin Kirstein are both
5-0 in OVC play, at Nos. 3 and 5 singles, respectively.
