Losing your first game in a post-season tournament is not often the best path to winning the whole thing, but Austin Peay's baseball team proved throughout the year it played better with its back against the wall. The tournament's No. 1 seed, the Govs opened the tournament with a loss to Southeast Missouri and fell into the loser's bracket. Austin Peay then survived their first elimination contest, using a bases-loaded wild pitch to secure an 11th-inning victory against Jacksonville State. The Govs then won both ends of a Saturday doubleheader when a loss in either game would have ended their tournament run. Austin Peay eliminated Southeast Missouri in the day's first game, using a 4-for-5, three-RBI performance by Greg Bachman and a masterful long relief outing from Zane Leffew (6.2 innings, three runs allowed) to march into the championship round. Then it became the Kacy Kemmer Show as the sophomore, who started the day's first game but lasted one-plus inning, threw a complete-game five-hit shutout to force the Sunday if-then contest. The Govs pitching staff dominated the second meeting with Eastern Illinois as Casey Delgado and Zach Toney combined to toss a three-hit shutout to give the Govs a second-consecutive OVC tournament title. Bachman was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, posting 12 hits in five games for a .545 batting average with seven RBI.
