Governors Stadium end also represents end for 20 Govs seniors

STORYLINES

  • This will be the Governors last game in Governors Stadium as it is currently configured. A ceremonial demolition on one of the east side walls will occur after the game is completed and the 67-year-old stadium is cleared. The beginning of the actual demolition is expected to begin after all materials are cleared from the stadium, Nov. 19. The new Governors Stadium is expected to be ready for competition for the 2014 season.
  • A ceremonial demolition will occur near the Gate 1 area on the stadium's west side after the contest concludes and the stadium is cleared.
  • Morgan Construction will take over the site on Wednesday after all remaining salvageable materials are extracted from the stadium. Actual demolition will begin Wednesday and the stadium's west side is expected to be grounded by week's end. The debris is expected to be removed within two weeks when construction will commence.
  • Not only will the game be the last in the current Governors Stadium version, it will be as well for 20 Governors seniors. They will be recognized in pregame ceremonies. In addition, the Govs will honor Jeremy Maze, who died of cancer May 11. The former walk-on would have been a senior this season.
  • A win against SEMO would prevent Austin Peay from going 0-11 for the first time since the 1990 team finished 0-11.
  • After opening with five straight road games plus a week off, the Governors finally played at home against Eastern Illinois, Oct. 10. APSU was the last FBS or FCS team to play at home. In total, the Govs play just four home games in 2013, this being the final one.
  • APSU played a school-record three FBS programs in 2013, including opening the season against a pair of SEC and BCS schools in Tennessee (Aug. 31) and Vanderbilt (Sept. 7). The Govs played Ohio, Sept. 21.
  • This is Austin Peay's 77th season of college football, including nine non-scholarship seasons (1997-2005).
  • In the Govs three FBS games against Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Ohio, the total attendance was 149,908. The Govs drew a total of 149,903 (home and away) in attendance during the 2012 season.
  • Since joining the OVC in 1964–including its 10-year hiatus for non-scholarship football–the fewest number of single-season points scored by the Govs is 89 by the 1988 team. The year before before joining the OVC the Governors tallied just 24 points in 1963. The Govs have 56 points this season.
  • Entering this weekend's action against Southeast Missouri, Austin Peay has faced the nation's toughest Football Championship Subdivision schedule. The Governors' FCS opposition has a combined 36-14 record, a .720 mark that tops Villanova (48-21, .696). According to Sagarin Rankings, the APSU schedule is 92nd toughest in all of Division I.
  • Southeast Missouri comes into the game at 2-8 overall, 1-5 in the OVC. The Redhawks are coming off a 41-16 home loss to Tennessee Tech.
