MURRAY, Ky. – A dominant performance against rival Murray State pushed Austin Peay State University men's tennis team's win streak to 11 matches, Tuesday. The Govs were rarely challenged en route to a 7-0 victory at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts.
This was the fourth consecutive victory for Austin Peay (11-2, 5-0 OVC) against Murray State (0-14, 0-5 OVC). The Govs have not dropped more than one point in any of their last three victories against the Racers.
“Everyone played great today,” said head coach Ross Brown. “They're working hard and playing great tennis. We're just making sure we stay focused, and it starts in doubles.”
No Gov was pushed to a third set in singles play. Notably, senior No. 1 player Sean Bailey defeated Adam Taylor (6-4, 6-1) and junior Jasmin Ademovic polished off Tyler Jeffers (6-2, 6-3) at No. 2. The duo teamed up for a No. 1 doubles, dispatching Taylor and Ryan Kennedy, 8-2.
A pair of Austin Peay sophomores continued lengthy winning streaks. Dimitar Ristovski made it 11 consecutive wins, defeating Kennedy (6-2, 6-3) at No. 3 singles. Aleksas Tverijonas made it 13 straight at No. 4 singles, knocking off Max McLean (6-0, 6-3).
The Govs conclude the regular season with a four-match homestand, with Tennessee State (April 6, 1 p.m.) and Belmont (April 7, 2 p.m.) scheduled to visit Clarksville this weekend.
