CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University has announced its home-opening football game against Eastern Illinois has been moved from Saturday, O ct. 12, to 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 10.
With fall break that Oct. 12 weekend it was decided to move up the home debut of the Govs and their new head coach Kirby Cannon. It will be the Governors' second Ohio Valley Conference game. They open the previous weekend at defending OVC champ Eastern Kentucky. That marks the final game of a difficult stretch of five straight road games—with a bye week (Sept. 28) sandwiched in—to open the season.
“Eastern Illinois did us a favor by agreeing to move our game to Thursday,” Cannon said. “It creates a situation where we play short on practice going into that game. But felt like we needed a home game that our students could easily attend. With the (fall break) holiday on that Friday from school, the Thursday night match up has a great chance to be well attended and give us the support that we will want and need after being on the road for five straight weeks.”
