Karac goes undefeated against North Alabama

CLARKSVILLE- A sweep of the two doubles matches along with a singles win were the highlights from Austin Peay State University women's tennis teams match against North Alabama, Friday.

The Lady Govs picked up their first point of the day in doubles action when seniors Ornella Di Salvo and Vanessa Tavares earned an 8-4 victory against Avery King and Natalia Barragan.  The Lady Govs completed the sweep of the doubles points when the duo of senior Jovana Karac and freshman Brittney Covington cruised to an 8-1 triumph against Olivera Ngouabeu and Natalia San Jose Moreno.

In singles action, the Lady Govs picked up their lone victory at the No. 4 position when Karac defeated Morgan Jose, 6-1, 6-0.  In other singles matches, Da Silva dropped a 5-7, 6-7 decision to Ngouabeu at the No. 1 position while Covington fell to San Jose Moreno in three sets (2-6, 6-3, 11-9) and Tavares dropped her match with Barragan 6-4, 6-4.

"I'm encouraged by our play today," said head coach Ross Brown.  "We are playing the type of tennis that will help us improve.  We lost some close ones today, but we won the doubles matches so we are doing alright."

Having played the last four weeks, the Lady Govs will have a week of well-deserved rest before returning to action.  The team returns to the courts at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional, a five-day tournament which begins Friday, October 17, at Tennessee.
