CARBONDALE, Ill. – Austin Peay State University men's tennis team dropped its first match of the 2014 campaign, 6-1, to Southern Illinois in Friday action.
The doubles were a struggle for the Govs (2-1) on Friday; for just the second time under head coach Ross Brown's tutelage, Austin Peay has lost the doubles point in back-to-back matches. Juniors Iago Seffrin and Dimitar Ristovski took down Rafael Cuadrillero and Filip Aleksic (6-4) at the No. 2 slot. Senior Jasmin Ademovic and junior Aleksas Tverijonas dropped a tough 6-5 battle at No. 1 to Jonny Rigby and Michal Kianicka.
Tverijonas would be the bright spot in singles, winning his No. 3 match against Jorge Cavero in straight sets (6-4, 7-5). Unfortunately, no other Gov would be able to force a third set against the Salukis (2-4), allowing the hosts to win their second straight after losing four in a row to start the season.
Austin Peay returns to action with a 5 p.m., Saturday match against Lipscomb at the Whitworth Indoor Tennis Facility in Nashville.
