CLARKSVILLE – Even without senior No. 1 Jasmin Ademovic, Austin Peay State University men's tennis team handled Western Kentucky with ease Friday in a convincing 6-1 victory.
The Govs move to 4-1 on the campaign and have won two straight. Western Kentucky falls to 2-2 overall.
Taking over for a hobbled Ademovic at No. 1, junior Dimitar Ristovski defeated J.T. Closi, 6-2, 6-1. He teamed with junior Iago Seffrin for an easy win at No. 1 doubles over Closi and Alex Taranda, 8-1.
Junior Aleksas Tverijonas defeated Taranda, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2 and joined sophomore Evan Borowski in an 8-1 win over Andrew Hill and Andrew Fish at No. 2 doubles. Tverijonas is now 5-0 on the season and has won 23 of his last 24 dual matches.
Borowski won his match at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 7-6, over Alex Stewart. After winning the clinching match against Chattanooga, Feb. 1, Borowski has now won back-to-back matches for the first time in his Austin Peay career.
Austin Peay freshmen James Mitchell and Manuel Montenegro both picked up singles wins Friday; Mitchell won his first match at No. 4, and the Govs first win at No. 4 this season, 7-5, 6-4, over Hill, while Montenegro was victorious in a 6-3, 7-6, outing against Fish.
The Govs travel to Southern Indiana, Saturday, for a 6 p.m. contest against the Screaming Eagles.
