MURFREESBORO- On the second day of the Dale Short Invitational, the Austin Peay State University men's tennis team accepted the challenge of Belmont. Over the course of the morning, the Governors were able to gain wins in both doubles and singles action.
In doubles play the duo of senior Aleksas Tverijonas and sophomore James Mitchell earned a hard fought 8-7 (7-5) victory against Caio Niel and Cedric Dujaquier. The pairing of sophomores Manuel Montenegro and Evan Borowski were able to force a tie-breaker against Bruno Russo and Robin Demasse before eventually falling 8-7 (7-3).
In singles action, Tverijonas completed his undefeated day by gaining a straight-set 6-3, 6-1 victory against Mauricio Antun and senior Dimitar Ristovski earned a straight-set 6-4, 7-6 (3) win against Marko Lovrinovic. Senior Iago Seffin forced a first set tie-break before falling to Dujaquier in straight-sets 7-6 (8-6), 6-3.
The Governors return to the court, Sunday, to compete in the final day of the Dale Short Invitational where they will face Southern Illinois in a 9 a.m. contest.
