CLARKSVILLE- Battling a rash of injuries, the Austin Peay State University women's tennis concluded play, Saturday, at the APSU Fall Tournament. With only two healthy players, the Lady Govs competed against Southeast Missouri in both singles and doubles, and faced UT Martin and Belmont in doubles.
In singles against Southeast Missouri, sophomore Hannah Tatlock battled back after dropping the first set before losing in three sets to Kateryna Stoianova 6-2, 4-6, 13-11. Senior Jovana Karac picked up a victory when Anna Makhneva retired with Karac leading 5-2 in the first set. In doubles action against the Redhawks, Karac and Tatlock were defeated by Mariya Kotsyuk and Mellissa Martin, 6-0.
In doubles action against Belmont, Tatlock and Karac dropped an extremely close 6-5 (7-5) decision to Lindsey Whitehead and Laura van Eeckhoudt. Against UT Martin, Tatlock and Karac dropped a 6-3 decision against Hitomi Naito and Burcu Tari.
"Right now, we just need to get healthy," said head coach Ross Brown. "Hannah really stepped up well this weekend, having to face No. 1 level competition and Jovana got a couple of wins this weekend so I am pleased with the effort."
The Lady Govs hit the road once again, travelling to Evansville, Indiana to compete in the UE/USI Fall Invite which begins Friday, September 26.
