Govs End Two-Game Road Swing with No. 3/4 JSU, Saturday

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Austin Peay State University football team ends a two-game road trip with a 1 p.m., Saturday afternoon contest at No. 3 Jacksonville State in Burgess-Snow Field.

The Gamecocks hold a 17-6-3 advantage in the all-time series with the Govs including a 10-2-1 mark in games played in Jacksonville.

APSU heads into the matchup at 0-5 overall and 0-4 in the Ohio Valley Conference after a 45-31 road loss to UT Martin. JSU comes into the meeting at 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the OVC after defeating Tennessee Tech 40-21 in its league opener.

The Opening Drive

Running back Kendall Morris turned in the Govs first 100-yard rushing game in 2016 with 103 yards against UT Martin.

Morris comes into the contest 26th on the Govs all-time career rushing list with 955 yards. He needs just 46 yards to become the 26th Gov to eclipse the 1,000 yard career rushing mark.

Quarterback Tommy Hays broke a school record in the Murray game, completing his first 14 passes. Hays finished the night 14-of-17 for 160 yards.

Kyran Moore was honored as the Ohio Valley Specialist of the Week after his 98-yard kickoff return touchdown against Eastern Illinois. Moore is the first Gov to earn weekly league recognition since 2012 and the first APSU specialist since 2011.

Wide receiver Jared Beard notched career-highs with 11 catches for 176 yards and two touchdowns against EIU. He missed matching the APSU school record by one catch. He also became just the sixth player to record more than 175 yards through the air in a game in program history.

Over the last three games, Beard has more yards (342), receptions (26) & receptions per game (8.7) than any other receiver in the OVC.

Beard has caught 101 passes for 1,212 yards and 12 TDs in his career. He ranks 10th in receiving yards, eighth in receptions & ninth in touchdown receptions in the APSU record books.

Senior receiver Rashaan Coleman needs just three passes to move into a tie for 10th place on the all-time career reception lists. Coleman sits at 88 catches.

Linebacker Gunnar Scholato holds at second in the NCAA and leads the OVC in tackles per game at 12.8.

Freshman linebacker Neonta Alexander averages 6.8 tackles per game and is the second ranked freshman linebacker in tackles per game.
