CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University's pitchers limited Tennessee Martin's softball team to just one run, Sunday, at Cheryl Holt Field in their Ohio Valley Conference series finale, but unfortunately that proved to be enough in the Govs' 1-0 loss.
Brooke Graham opened the Skyhawks' fourth inning with a single, the first hit of the day given up by Austin Peay (5-22, 1-9 OVC). It was followed by Lauren Myers reaching on a throwing error by Danielle Lierman on a sacrifice bunt attempt, putting runners on first and second, with no out. Katie Warrick, who later would single as UTM's only other hit, then drew a walk to load the bases, followed by Renate Meckl popping out to the pitcher for the first out of the inning.
That brought up Alicia Hansen, whose ground ball out to second base allowed Graham to come home with what proved to be UT Martin's game-winning run.
Austin Peay also was limited to just two hits in the contest, a first-inning lead-off single by Chandler Groves and a one-out single by Rikki Arkansas in the bottom of the sixth.
Autumn Hanners (3-10) took the hard-luck loss, giving up the unearned run on one hit, while striking out seven and walking three, while Brooke Kennedy (11-6) got the complete-game shutout victory for UTM (21-15, 6-4 OVC), giving up two hits, a walk while striking out four.
