TUSCALOOSA, Ala.— Austin Peay State University men's cross country team closed out their strong season with an appearance at the NCAA South Regionals hosted by the University of Alabama.
Senior Mathew Biwott capped his career at Austin Peay running the ten-kilometer course in 33:16.8. Sophomore Hezron Kiptoo and junior Wesley Gray crossed the line at nearly the same time finishing with times of 33:41.0 and 33:41.1. Sophomore Tyler Smith (34:51.4) and freshman Thomas Porter (36:40.4) rounded out the scoring for the Governors.
Sophomore standout Nash Young was unable to compete due to an injury, but he will be back, stronger next year and will certainly get his opportunity to compete at the NCAA South Regionals before he departs Austin Peay.
"We were without Nash today, and really proud of Thomas Porter for stepping in and doing what he needed to do there to help the team out," said head coach Doug Molnar. "Obviously we will miss Mathew next year, but we are bringing back six out of the top seven which is exciting leading into next season."
The Governors finished their cross country season competing in their first NCAA Regionals race since 2013.
