More national honors pour in for Govs football

CLARKSVILLE – On the eve of the early signing day period, several Austin Peay State University football players picked up national accolades for their play on the gridiron during the 2017 season.

KYRAN MOORE was tabbed as a HERO Sports First Team Special Teams All-American. Moore finished his Governors career with an exclamation point, proving to be one of the most versatile players in all of the country. "Tiny" received STATS FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week for his 363 all-purpose yard performance against one of the nation's best FBS teams in UCF. At the time, it was the most all-purpose yards in a single game by any player in FCS football.

JAISON WILLIAMS was named to the HERO Sports First Team All-Sophomore team as well as being selected to the STATS FCS Third Team All-American squad. The announcement comes just one week after Williams was named an Associated Press Second Team All-American. Williams finished the season with a team-high 9.5 sacks, while recording four forced fumbles.

JEREMIAH OATSVALL improved on his Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year award with another strong recognition. The Brentwood native was selected as a HERO Sports First Team All-Freshman representative thanks to his heroics in 2017. Oatsvall tallied 1,601 yards of total offense during his freshman season. His 13 total touchdowns led Austin Peay.

AHMAAD TANNER picked up his first national accolade with a HERO Sports All-Freshman Honorable Mention. Tanner led the Govs in rushing during his inaugural season racking up 698 yards on the ground. The Dalton, Ga. native also led APSU with eight touchdowns including finding paydirt for six consecutive games to end the season. Tanner picked up his first multi-score performance with two touchdowns in the season finale win over Eastern Illinois.

KORDELL JACKSON earned his way onto the HERO Sports All-Freshman Honorable Mention list as well thanks to a solid rookie campaign in Clarksville. Jackson, a native of Birmingham, Ala., saw action in all 12 games this season, notching 42 tackles and 6.0 tackles for loss. It is rare for a cornerback to make an impact in the backfield, but Jackson picked up 3.0 sacks – third most for the Govs.
