NASHVILLE—Returning to Percy Warner Park for Vanderbilt's Commodore Classic, the Austin Peay State University men's cross country team ran strong in the team's first eight-kilometer race of the season.
The men's 13th-place finish was led by sophomore Nash Young who notched a benchmark time of 26:46.1 in the eight-kilometer race.
Fifth-year senior Shadrack Matelong and sophomore Hezron Kiptoo worked together to close the gap finishing just behind Nash with times of 26:52.6 and 26:53.7 respectively. Fifth-year senior Mathew Biwott had a strong finish in his second race at Austin Peay crossing the line in 27:05.1 just ahead of junior Wesley Gray (27:05.1). Freshmen Thomas Porter (28:31.7), Elliot Giles (28:38.7) and Daniel Davis (31:03.1) completed the Governors attack.
The Govs will be in action at home 9 a.m. next Saturday.
