CLARKSVILLE—The Austin Peay State University men's cross country team finished second at the APSU Invitational at Liberty Park, Saturday.
Sophomore Nash Young (18:28.5) and junior Wesley Gray (18:47.7) pushed each other to a fourth and fifth place finish respectively. Young was the first Austin Peay runner to cross the line for the third time this year, and Gray heeded head coach Doug Molnar's advice about being aggressive from the gun.
"Overall, as a team, I think we did much better this week than we did last week," said Gray "We definitely took what coach said to heart, our main goal was to go out hard the first three miles and hang on to the finish."
Thomas Porter (19:11.4), Hezron Kiptoo (19.14.7) and Tyler Smith (19:32.1) completed the scoring for the Govs putting them in second place behind Memphis. As Matthew Biwott (19:43.3), Shadrack Matelong (20:02.8), Elliot Giles (20:25.7), Daniel Davis (21:29.5) and Andrew Abel (22:36.5) rounded out the Governors attack.
The Govs return to action 10:45 a.m., next Saturday at the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky.
