Dugout Dish - Fall Rewind

| By:

Fresh off a season in which they won a program-record 39 games and finished second in the Ohio Valley Conference in 2018, Austin Peay State University's softball team heads into the 2019 season with high expectations and a work ethic to match. This is 'Dugout Dish' blog where each student-athlete on the team will take an opportunity to write a post highlighting the goings on of the squad, beginning with fall training and continuing all the way through the 2019 season.

Fall Rewind

Since our last blog, we had fall break, wrapped up the fall season with the Red vs Black World Series, and attended football games that included Homecoming weekend and Halloween.

Over fall break, I had the chance to visit family in Indiana, and I really enjoyed being home

Softball-wise during break, we were still in full practice, which means we have 20-hour weeks that include morning weights for an hour, class during the day and finishing off with a three-hour practice on the field.

Before fall break was over, we started our Red vs. Black World Series, with coach Kassie Stanfill dividing the team into two groups and playing a total of three games.

The first game was a tough loss for the Red Team, but the next two days the Red Team came out for vengeance!

Red Team took charge and ended up winning the World Series, with the third game of the World Series ending our 20-hour week period, which leads us into individuals (workouts).

Individuals will give us the chance to hone in on our weaknesses and continue to build on our strengths.

The fun never ends with us, though.

Softball HalloweenOn Halloween we had a team practice, but not the practice you would expect.

All of us, even the coaches, dressed up in our costumes to play some fun games and ended with a pumpkin painting contest. The night was filled with great laughter and unforgettable memories made.

Outside of softball, the team likes to go support other athletic events. Right now, football is in season and we love cheering on our Govs. Before the game, tailgates are filled with corn hole tournaments, food, and pictures. With us, you're guaranteed to have a good time.

A couple of weeks ago it was homecoming, which means FREE STUFF ALL WEEK! Sororities and fraternities play music outside of the University Center and hand out free t-shirts, cups, food and other cool Austin Peay gear.

At the football game, the Homecoming King and Queen were announced at halftime. Overall, the football team is currently doing well on their year. Coach Healy has brought a lot of positive energy to the football field. We wish them the best and will continue to cheer them on the rest of the season!

As fall practices comes to an end, the team is looking better than ever, and I am beyond excited to see what Austin Peay Softball brings to the field this upcoming season.

Let's Go Peay!
