Brown adds two new players to women's recruiting class

CLARKSVILLE - Austin Peay State University women's tennis head coach Ross Brown announced a pair of signings to his 2018-19 recruiting class, which includes one true freshman and one transfer.

Tatiana Lopez, who played her first two seasons of collegiate tennis at the University of Kansas, adds some veteran experience to the squad. Before Kansas, the Togliatti, Russia native won the Russian Championship in singles in 2011 and finished in second place in doubles that same year in her age group. Lopez was ranked as high as No. 264 in the International Tennis Federation World Junior Rankings. At Kansas, Lopez finished her freshman season with a 20-14 singles record and a 17-10 doubles record, earning a spot on the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team as well. This spring, Lopez is currently ranked No. 84 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Doubles Rankings with her partner Nina Khmelnitckaia and Kansas as a team is ranked No. 17.

"Tatiana has experience at the highest level of college tennis," said Brown. "She is not only a great singles player, but an accomplished doubles player and will make an incredible impact on our team."

"Tatiana has already had some college tennis success," said Governors assistant coach Maria Sorbello. "She is a very tough competitor and an exceptional doubles player. We are excited to help her grow her skills at Austin Peay! We know she is going to work hard to grow as a player."

Danielle Morris will also join the Govs in the fall, signing to be a Governor last week. Morris, from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, has a highly athletic background as she attended St. Aidan's Anglican Girls School and was the captain of the women's tennis team there for four years, along with playing basketball, badminton, and running cross country for St. Aidan's. Morris made the semifinals in the Under-16 Australian Championships in doubles in 2016 and was a part of the Australian Merit Tennis Team in 2017. Morris also was the captain of the state of Queensland's tennis team in 2015 and 2017 and made the semifinals in singles at the 2017 ITF Auckland Open. Morris was ranked as high as No. 2 in the Queensland Junior Rankings and has achieved rankings of No. 86 in the Australian Open Women's Rankings and No. 934 in the ITF World Junior Rankings.

"Danielle is a great competitor with international experience," said Brown. "She will also help with doubles and I think will form the foundation of our team for seasons to come. She is very mature for her age and will also make an immediate impact on our team."

"Danielle is going to be a great addition to our team," stated Sorbello. "She is very focused on what she wants and how she wants to go about it. She is going to help us a lot in doubles and adds more depth in our singles lineup. We are excited to have her join our team and I look forward to seeing her grow as a player!"
