The Fast Five | Back in the lab

January 17, 2019

The Fast Five makes its triumphant return! Every week during the academic year (which we are once again back to, judging by the parking situation), we'll give you the Fast Five—five things to know or watch for around APSU athletics in the coming days.

Mere moments from now, women's hoops will kick the weekend off against SIU Edwardsville looking to pick up their first OVC road win of the year. The Govs will have a new face in uniform this weekend, with All-OVC volleyball standout Logan Carger joining the roster just this week.

Men's basketball enters the weekend unbeaten in league play and looks to keep it going against the Cougars and Eastern Illinois. A win would be Austin Peay's eighth straight win against SIUE, their longest active streak against an OVC opponent and longest against any league foe since an 11-game streak against Jacksonville State (Jan. 4, 2007-Jan. 14, 2012).

Back to Nashville goes the track and field program for the Vanderbilt Invitational this weekend. The meet will feature a bevy of SEC and nationally relevant programs, and Austin Peay standouts Savannah Amato, Sabrina Richman and Tymeitha Tolbert look to see where they stack up against some of the best student-athletes in the nation.

It's a big weekend for the tennis program, which both hosts and travels as the indoor season gets into full swing. It kicks off with the women's program making a visit to Middle Tennessee for a 10 a.m., Saturday, tilt, with the men hosting Southern Utah beginning at noon the same day. The women's team travels further east for a 1 p.m. contest at Chattanooga on Sunday.

A couple of notices for the student-athletes—Jan. 22, Fortera Credit Union will be hosting a financial workshop at the Echo Power Club Level, while SAAC will have a meeting Jan. 23 at the Govs Club Room in the Dunn Center.

That's this week's Fast Five. Good luck to all our teams in action this week and Let's Go Peay!
