GULF SHORES, Ala. – Austin Peay State University's beach volleyball team wrapped things up in their final matches at the March to May Invitational, falling to Spring Hill, 4-1, and Georgia State, 5-0, Sunday.
The No. 3 pairing of Haley Turner and Jenna Panning picked up a victory against Spring Hill in straight sets, 21-16 and 21-19, against the Badgers' Caroline Herrera and Allison Weimer. Governors graduate transfer Ceira Koons and Brooke Moore, the No. 2 pairing, battled Brittany Billoti and Taylor Hurst of Spring Hill into a three-set finish after the Govs took the second set, 21-11.
Struggles continued for the Govs against Georgia State until the No. 2 pairing of Brooke Moore and sophomore Cori Theiss took the first set into extra volleys, 22-20. They followed that up with a 21-19 set two victory before falling in the decisive third set, 15-9.
The Governors return to Clarksville for their first home matches of the season with a doubleheader against Southern Mississippi on Thursday afternoon. They will then host the Governors Challenge on Friday and Saturday, with matches against Tusculum, Missouri Baptist and Central Arkansas.
