Dugout Dish - Coming Home

| By:

Fresh off a season in which they won a program-record 39 games and finished second in the Ohio Valley Conference in 2018, Austin Peay State University's softball team heads into the 2019 season with high expectations and a work ethic to match. This is 'Dugout Dish' blog where each student-athlete on the team will take an opportunity to write a post highlighting the goings on of the squad, beginning with fall training and continuing all the way through the 2019 season.

Coming Home

Kelsey Gray here with the Dugout Dish!

We have just concluded our spring break games, and I have to say that it was definitely one of the most memorable spring breaks I have had in a while.

After traveling to Coastal Carolina for a tournament, we headed to the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), but before making it to Ole Miss, we stopped in Atlanta on Monday. We played for an hour at TopGolf and got to show off our golfing skills. Some of us definitely need a little work, myself included.

After arriving at the hotel in Oxford, Miss., we went to practice at Ole Miss on Tuesday night. The game day atmosphere was very exciting -- especially since we do not get to face a Southeastern Conference opponent every day.

Unfortunately, we would fall to Ole Miss, 7-2, but it was still an exciting experience to wrap up our month-long road trip to begin the season. Despite the loss, I could not think of a better way to spend spring break than on the road than with my teammates and coaches.

When we got back from Ole Miss Wednesday night, we got to see the new stadium seating that was built at our field. It is exciting to have a more of a stadium feel rather than just a couple sets of bleachers.

And what better way to put the new stadium to use than our home opener Sunday against North Alabama?

We concluded our spring break games with a win in our first game of the doubleheader, 9-1, but lost the second game.

We will be on the road again this Thursday, traveling to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio for our final in-season tournament of the year and last set of games before starting Ohio Valley Conference play.
