CLARKSVILLE – In partnership with Operation Teammate, Austin Peay State University's football team will host 20 children of military parents stationed at Fort Campbell, Saturday.

The outing was initially scheduled in conjunction with spring practice, Saturday, but due to inclement weather forecast, practice has been moved to Friday at 5:30 p.m. However, the outing with Operation Teammate will still take place Saturday morning.

The day will begin at 10 a.m. as the children – ranging from first through eighth grade – and their family members will arrive at Fortera Stadium and receive a welcome from head coach Mark Hudspeth. They will then have the opportunity to take photos in Austin Peay football jerseys.

A tour of the Fortera Stadium facilities will follow, concluding at the weight room, where the group will observe the end of the team's morning lift. They will wrap up their visit by getting to play football with the student-athletes, either on the field or in the Memorial Health Building – the "Red Barn" – depending on the weather.

For the 20 children participating, they have had a parent away from home on duty for a combined total of 615 months, which equates to 51 years of separation. Three of the children currently have a parent on deployment. Additionally, the families have moved duty locations a total of 44 times.

Operation Teammate, based in Augusta, Georgia, is a child-focused organization engaged in supporting the sons and daughters of all branches of the military. It provides these children with memorable sporting experiences by teaming them with sports teams who make them honorary members during various times.
