BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Powered by a dominating one-hit, 13-strikeout, performance versus DePaul this past weekend at the Coach B Classic, Austin Peay State University senior Kelsey Gross was selected as the Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, as released by the conference office Monday.
Gross, a Collierville, Tennessee native, only needed 96 pitches (70 for strikes) to shut down the Blue Demons of the Big East Conference, as she only allowed two base runners in the contest, coming on a fourth inning bunt single and a base on balls in the fifth.
Both runners did not advance past first base.
The 13 strikeouts were also a career single-game high for Gross, with nine of the 13 DePaul strikeouts coming on swings and misses.
Gross also had two innings of relief versus Ball State during the classic, retiring all six batter she faced, including one via a strikeout.
This marks the 17th time overall by 10 different pitchers, a Gov has earned the distinction of being named OVC Pitcher of the Week since the OVC started the honor in the 1994 season.
