Coming off a 2021 season where the Governors posted the fewest losses in a season in the program's history, Austin Peay State University's softball team heads into the 2022 season with high expectations and a work ethic to match. This is 'Dugout Dish' a blog where each student-athlete on the team will take an opportunity to write a post highlighting the goings on of the squad, beginning with fall training and continuing all the way through the season.
Hello everyone, I'm Kendyl Weinzapfel and I am a junior outfielder from Evansville, Indiana. My time at Austin Peay has been amazing. It really does feel like home away from home and I am still so happy with my decision to become a Gov.
I am a marketing major and striving to complete my bachelor's degree next spring and then go on to get a master's degree to make myself more applicable for future jobs. I hope to use my degrees to help me get a career in human resources with a business in my hometown.
Over break I was able to do all kinds of fun things like going to Clearwater, Florida with my family for Christmas, going to a Morgan Wallen concert with my boyfriend, and spending New Year's Eve with some of my best friends from school in Huntsville, Alabama.
Being home for break takes me back to playing when I was younger because I get to hit in my batting cage in our family's barn with my dad, (even if his front toss can be questionable at times). It was very nice to have the break from school as well, but it is safe to say that I am ready to get back to softball with my team.
I know myself and the team are so excited to be getting back on campus this week and starting up practices for our spring season! Our first practice is on Saturday and classes start on the 18th, which will give us a few days to focus solely on softball and catching up!
We look forward to seeing you at Cathi Maynard Park this Spring!
