CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University head women's tennis coach Maria Sorbello Morrison has announced the Governors' 21-match spring schedule ahead of the program's 2024 campaign.
The Governors' 2024 season begins in the Bluegrass State against a pair of former Ohio Valley Conference rivals in Murray State (Jan. 26) and Belmont (Jan. 27). Both matches will be played at the McCracken County Indoor Tennis Center in Paducah, Kentucky.
Following their contest against the Racers and Bruins, the Govs remain in Kentucky for a Feb. 2 contest against Atlantic Coast Conference foe, Louisville. This season's match against the Cardinals marks the third-straight season the two teams have faced one another, with Louisville winning both decisions, 6-1.
Returning to the Volunteer State for the first time in 2024, Austin Peay faces Memphis (Feb. 6) for the second-straight season and third time since 2012.
Austin Peay hosts another pair of former conference rivals and current Conference USA affiliates in Western Kentucky (Feb. 10) and Middle Tennessee (Feb. 16) at the Evansville Tennis Center in Evansville, Indiana.
After facing Cumberlands (Feb. 23), the Govs travel to the Music City to face Southeastern Conference foe Vanderbilt (Feb. 25) before wrapping up the road trip at Alabama-Birmingham (Feb. 29).
The Govs play their first game in Clarksville when they face longtime rival Southeast Missouri (March 9), who APSU defeated 6-1 last season in a neutral-site match, before turning their attention to the program's second Atlantic Sun Conference slate.
Austin Peay begins ASUN play with back-to-back road matches against Eastern Kentucky (March 15) and Queens (March 17). The Govs went 2-0 against the Colonels and Royals last season, outscoring them by a combined 13-1. APSU also earned its first postseason win as an ASUN member in a 4-0 victory against Queens, April 15.
The Govs then host three-straight matches to continue ASUN play beginning with a match against Stetson (March 22) and which is followed by contests against Florida Gulf Coast (March 24) and Bellarmine (March 26).
The second half of league play takes APSU to Conway, Arkansas (March 26) where they face Central Arkansas, before returning to Clarksville to host Kennesaw State (April 5) and North Florida (April 7).
On the road for their final two matches of the regular season, the Govs take on North Alabama (April 12) and Lipscomb (April 14) in Florence, Alabama and Nashville, respectively.
The six-team 2023 Atlantic Sun Women's Tennis Championship is hosted by FGCU, April 19-22.
