Coming off a 2023 campaign where the Governors posted a program record fifth-straight full season with a winning record, as well as a berth into the ASUN Conference post-season tournament in their year as a conference member, Austin Peay State University's softball team heads into the 2024 season with high expectations and a work ethic to match. This is 'Dugout Dish' a blog where each student-athlete on the team takes an opportunity to write a post highlighting the goings on of the squad, beginning with fall training and continuing all the way through the regular season.
Hey Austin Peay family, I hope everyone is well and had a great summer. My name is Skylar Sheridan, and I am a junior from Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Wow, saying I'm a junior it's crazy, I'm an old guy … don't tell our super senior I said that though.
Anyway, we have been getting back into the swing of things with school and softball. I am still a Business Management major, and I believe that this is the major that I am going to stick with. I truly enjoy my classes and professors.
We recently did our first fundraising event with Cross Creek Clay Skeet Shooting. I know some of y'all are wondering did I shoot, unfortunately I didn't but I can say that some of my teammates did.
I did have a great time pulling the skeet for the other participants though, and I would love to go back in the near future. I did want to say a big thank you to Mr. Joe and the Cross Creek Clay Skeet Shooting staff for allowing us to hang out with y'all, while making a little bit of money for our program.
This past weekend our football team played the University of Tennessee, at Knoxville and a group of us drove to Knoxville to show our support.
The Govs did come up a little short, but I will say I am very proud of their performance. I always think it is great to experience college and college football games in a new place and environment.
This upcoming week we start 20-hour weeks, which mean 6 a.m.'s, hitting groups, and team practices. You guys know, the whole nine yards.
It'll be a grind, but you know us Govs love and embrace the grind. We also have a conditioning test on Monday. I would say wish us luck, but I feel pretty confident about this one.
Anyways, that's all for me guys, again I hope everyone is well and make sure y'all come and support your Govs this fall!
