CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – With a pair of home games on the horizon for the men's basketball team and beach volleyball season less than three weeks away, the Austin Peay athletics department, Five Star Radio Group, and the Hand Family Companies are back with the weekly Austin Peay Coaches Show featuring head men's basketball coach Corey Gipson and first-year head beach volleyball coach Ginny Busse at 5 p.m., Tuesday, in-studio.
With the women's basketball team on the road this week, Busse joins host Brian Rives for her inaugural appearance on the coaches show alongside senior Montana-Rae Pelak.
Rives and Gipson will kick off the show by recapping the men's basketball team's pair of games over the week which saw the Govs split a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference contests.
After dropping a 63-43 decision at Jacksonville, Wednesday, Gipson and the Govs defeated North Florida in a thrilling, 95-91 double-overtime game Saturday at F&M Bank Arena.
Powered by a career-high 30-point performance by graduate forward Sai Witt and a pair of 20-point outings by Dezi Jones and Ja'Monta Black, the Govs ended a three-game losing streak to capture their fourth ASUN win of the season and eighth at F&M Bank Arena.
The Governors held North Florida – who entered the game as the nation's top three-point scoring team – to a season-low seven makes from beyond the arc while knocking down 13 themselves, including a trio in the overtime periods.Â
The Governors continue a three-game homestand with games against Kennesaw State and Queens this week.Â
First, APSU hosts Kennesaw State in a 7 p.m., Thursday game which is a Black Out and "Let's Glow Peay Night" before then welcoming Queens in a 4:15 p.m., Saturday contest which is Military Appreciation Night at F&M Bank Arena.
A 2019 graduate of Austin Peay, Busse was named the second beach volleyball coach in program history in January. She was a seven-time letterwinner at APSU – earning four with the indoor team and three with the beach volleyball program.
Bussee won three Ohio Valley Conference Championships during her four-year career in Clarksville, winning the 2017 regular-season and tournament titles in addition to the 2018 regular-season championship.
She capped off her career by being tabbed a 2019 First Team All-OVC selection and the OVC's Defensive Player of the Year.
In the sand, Busse was a member of the Govs' inaugural beach volleyball program in 2017.
Pelak is in her first year with the Govs' beach volleyball program after spending the last three years at Webber International where she was a two-time Sun Conference Champion and two-time NAIA National Tournament All-Tournament selection.
Presented weekly, the Austin Peay Coaches Show features Austin Peay head coaches and various assistant coaches and players throughout the academic year. The Austin Peay Coaches Show will be broadcast live in-studio and airs live on ESPN Clarksville (104.1 FM and 540 AM) and is simulcast online.
