LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Led by a second-place finish by Sydney Freeman and fifth-place finish by Shaye Foster, Austin Peay State University's women's cross country team won the Louisville Classic, while the men earned a fourth-place finish in the 25-team field, Saturday, at E.P. Sawyer Park.
The Governors' win in Louisville is their first tea victory since winning Trevecca's Michael Pretorious Invitational last season and the second under head coach Asha Gibson Smith.
All of APSU's counting scores finished within the top 25, as, in addition to Freeman and Foster, Laure Marie Kidukula (12th), Taylah Upshaw (19th), and Jaedyn Stalnecker (25th) all posted sub-20:30-minute times. Freeman, who won the Michael Pretorious Invitational Sept. 20, also has finished in the top 20 of every meet thus far this season.
On the men's side, Tahmar Upshaw paced the Govs for the second-straight meet with a 12th-place finish. Zeniel Lizardo and Jacob Schweigardt also posted top 30 finishes.
Up next, Austin Peay will participate in Evansville's Angel Mounds Invitational at the Angel Mounds Cross Country Course in Evansville, Indiana.
