CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University head softball coach Kassie Stanfill announced the Governors' five-game fall schedule, with all four contests being at Cathi Maynard Park. The team also will close the slate with the annual Red and Black World Series.
Austin Peay begins its fall campaign with a 5:30 p.m., Sept. 26 contest against rival Murray State. The Governors defeated the Racers 5-1 last, but dropped a 6-5, eight-inning decision in Clarksville during the spring. Following its matchup against MSU, APSU hosts Belmont in a 1 p.m., Sept. 28 doubleheader. It is the first meeting between the two former Ohio Valley Conference members since splitting another doubleheader during the 2023 fall season.
After nearly two weeks off, the Governors host Volunteer State in a 4 p.m., Oct. 10 contest and then Walters State at 4 p.m., Oct. 15. The games against the Pioneers and the Lady Senators will both be 10-inning contests.
The fall slate will then conclude with the Red and Black World Series, Oct. 21-23, with all three games beginning at 3:30 p.m. Captains and both teams' rosters for the world series will be announced leading up to the event.
All fall games are free to the public.
The all-time winningest head coach in program history, Stanfill enters her eighth season at the helm of Governors softball with a 190-142-career record and is coming off a 2025 season in which the team tied the program record with 39 wins and advanced the furthest it has in the Atlantic Sun Conference Softball Championship.
Stanfill returned 13 student-athletes – 11 letterwinners and a pair redshirts – from the 2025 season. Those returners feature a pair of reigning All-Atlantic Sun Conference honorees in First Team All-ASUN selection Brie Howard and Second Team All-ASUN honoree, Sammie Shelander.
She also welcomed a 14-player newcomer class consisting of nine transfers – seven of which have Division I experience – and five freshmen. The nine transfers bring 408 starts across 638-career games, while the freshmen all come from different states in California, Idaho, Kentucky, Georgia, and Indiana.
