As a senior in 2020-21: Consistently reliable performer kept it up once again in his fourth season as a Gov… opened the season with a dominant 7&6 match play win against Western Kentucky at Clarksville Country Club… picked up a 2&1 win in the rematch in Bowling Green… carded a season-best 69—his best round since 2018—to close out his stay the Murray State Invitational at Greystone Golf Club… posted round-over-round improvements at the Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Golf Championships (78-74-73—225) and led the Govs with a 3.00 stroke average on par-3 holes for the tournament.
As a junior in 2019-20: Appeared in four tournaments… posted a 220 (73-74-73) at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate… tied for 15th at the Skyhawk Classic at 222 (75-75-72)… unbeaten in three matches at the President’s Day Match Play Championship… counted all three rounds at the Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner, knocking down Austin Peay’s lone eagle of the week during the final round.
As a sophomore in 2018-19: One of two Govs to appear in all 11 tournaments… 73.3 stroke average in the first round was second among Govs… closed opening event, the GolfWeek Program Challenge, with a season-best 69… opened play at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate with a 69 en route to a season-best tie for 13th at the home event; sank nine birdies at Greystone Golf Club, tied for fourth-most in the event… counted two of his three rounds to help the Govs to a runner-up finish at the Invitational at Savannah Harbor to open the spring session, closing strong by parring the entire back-nine.
As a freshman in 2017-18: Newcomer made himself into an indispensable part of the lineup, making nine appearances (seven in the lineup)… first career appearance found him in the lineup at the season-opening Murray State Invitational and he made it count, finishing 11th (69-72-73—214) and carding a career-low 69 in his first start as a Gov… a top-half finisher in his first appearance at the Governors home event, finishing 33rd in the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, shooting a 225 (74-74-77)… put up three straight top-20 finishes during the spring, as an individual at the Phoenix Invitational (19th, 75-78—153), the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate (20th, 71-74-75—220) and the Wofford Intercollegiate (season-high tying 11th, 73-70-71—214)… represented the Govs at the 2018 Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Golf Championships, shooting a 231 (78-77-76) as the only Gov to improve his score each day.
Prior to Austin Peay: Helped Kevin Vannoy's Science Hill squad to back-to-back team state runner-up finishes and was a three-time state championship qualifier, topping out with a third-place finish in the 2016 TSSAA State Championships... all-conference, all-region and all-state as a senior, earning conference co-player of the year honors... ranked 11th in the state of Tennessee and 162nd nationally by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard.
Personal: Son of Chad and Lisa Whitfield... has two siblings, Colin and Kayla... born March 25... majoring in finance.
