Career Recap: Austin Peay

As a senior in 2021-22:

Spring Season

  • A doubles specialist who tied for a team-best 11 wins while exclusively playing alongside freshman Denise Torrealba.
  • Began the season on the No. 2 doubles court before being elevated to the No. 1 position, March 8.
  • Won nine-straight doubles matches from March 4 to April 22, outscoring opponents 54-17 and allowing four or more games just once in that span.
  • Became the 13th unique All-OVC Doubles Team selection in program history alongside Torrealba – the first since Susan Sheather and Andrea Hede in 1994.
  • Finished her Austin Peay career with 16 singles and 32 doubles victories.

Fall Season

  • Went 6-3 in singles and 4-2 in doubles through four fall tournaments – tied for the second-most wins on the team in each category.
  • Started the fall campaign by winning six of her first seven singles matches.
  • Kicked off the fall season with a two-set (6-4, 6-2) victory over Belmont’s Aly Getty at the APSU Fall Tournament.
  • Advanced past the Qualifying Draw at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Ohio Valley Regionals, winning her first three singles matches, to advance to the Main Draw Round of 32. 
  • Picked up a pair of doubles victories alongside Danielle Morris at the UCA 2nd Fall Invitational.
  • Won a pair of doubles matches alongside Jana Leder during the fall, including an 8-2 victory over IUPUI’s Krystal Grubb and Gabrielle Ochalik at the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals.

As a junior in 2020-21:

Spring Season

  • Anchored the Governors’ singles lineup, picking up seven victories from the No. 6 position.
  • Started the season off strong in singles play, winning her first five matches.
  • Picked up five victories from the No. 3 doubles position with Ana Albertson.
  • Defeated Murray State’s Gabrielle Geolier in the regular-season finale as well as a week later in the OVC Tournament semifinals.

As a sophomore in 2019-20:

Spring Season

  • Did not compete during the shortened spring season.

Fall Season

  • Did not compete during fall tournament season.

As a freshman in 2018-19:

Spring Season

  • Made her long-awaited debut season in the spring as a doubles specialist, teaming with Tatiana Lopez for a 13-2 record.
  • Set the program record for longest doubles win streak, winning 13 straight matches at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
  • Provided the clinching doubles point in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Semifinal against Southeast Missouri, coming from 5-2 down to win 7-5.

Was named to the Best 16 All-Japan Junior team in doubles… Has been ranked as high as No. 816 internationally and was ranked No. 30 in the Kanto Region of Japan.

Daughter of Tatsuo and Kaoru Nakanishi… has three siblings, Ryuta, Kota, and Shinta… born June 6… an Exercise Science major.
