Each Tuesday the athletics communications office will update this page with quick bullet points for each of the teams currently in season. In addition, current department bragging points and academic accolades are provided at the bottom of the update. We encourage you to keep up to date on Governors athletics through this update.

BASEBALL (28-20, 17-10 OVC [3rd])

  • Last Weekend: Won its three-game OVC series at SIUE, 2-1
  • In its 12thweekend, won its 11th series and has won eight of its nine OVC series this season.
  • Qualified for 2018 OVC Baseball Championship, May 22-27 in Oxford, Alabama (third straight appearance).
  • Sophomore first baseman Parker Phillips finished the weekend with 17 home runs, three shy of breaking the APSU single-season record set in 1996.
  • Senior Michael Costanzo (86 strikeouts) and junior Jacques Pucheu (81) are seeking to become the 2nd and 3rd pitchers to reach 100 strikeouts in a season.
  • Head coach Travis Janssen is six wins away from his 200th career victory and eight wins away from his 100th APSU victory.

SOFTBALL (33-15, 14-4 OVC [2nd])

  • Last Weekend: Swept OVC doubleheaders from SIUE and Eastern Illinois
  • Qualified for 2018 OVC Softball Championship, May 9-12 in Oxford, Alabama (first appearance since 2007)
  • Enter the weekend two games behind first-place Eastern Kentucky. Govs have four games remaining, Colonels have six games left.
  • With the win against EIU, set program record for most wins in a season, breaking the mark set by the 1989 squad.
  • Junior pitcher Morgan Rackel was named adidas OVC Pitcher of the Week after pitching the Govs first no-hitter since 1997 against Eastern Illinois.
  • Junior third baseman Danielle Liermann is tied for APSU's career RBI mark, her next RBI will break the record held since 1996 by Hall of Famer Andrea Miller.

  • CRADLE OF COACHES. Austin Peay coaches have claimed four OVC Coach of the Year honors in 2018:
    • Will Healy (Football)
    • Taylor Mott (Volleyball)
    • Matt Figger (Basketball)
    • Amy McCollum & Sara Robson (Women's Golf)
  • TOP OF THEIR CLASS. Five Governors athletes have won a major year-end award in their respective sport:
    • Ashley Slay (Volleyball Player of the Year)
    • Kristen Stucker (Volleyball Setter of the Year)
    • Jeremiah Oatsvall (Football Freshman of the Year)
    • Terry Taylor (Men's Basketball Freshman of the Year)
    • Brooke Moore (Volleyball Tournament Most Valuable Player)
  • 15 ALL-OVC HONOREES. Through the end of the tennis and golf seasons 15 Governors athletes have been named first or second team All-OVC.
  • GOVS TOP HONORS. At the 2018 ESPEAY's, Austin Peay athletics recognized its top student-athletes from the 2017-18 year
    • Female Athlete of the Year: Kristen Stucker
    • Male Athlete of the Year: Jaison Williams
    • Female Legends Award: Ashley Slay
    • Male Legends Award: Malik Boynton
    • 2017-18 Govs Cup Winner: Volleyball

ACADEMIC ACCOLADES

  • Junior Kristen Stucker honored with Ohio Valley Conference’s Scholar-Athlete Award (one of six awarded) and was named a CoSIDA Women’s Volleyball Second-Team Academic All-American.
  • Junior Ryan Rockensuess was named a CoSIDA Football Academic All-District selection.
  • Senior Falon Baker was named a CoSIDA Women’s Basketball Academic All-District selection.
  • Four Teams received NCAA Public Recognition Awards: women’s golf, women’s volleyball, women’s cross country and women’s tennis.
    • Recognized for maintaining a multiyear Academic Progress Rate among the top 10 percent of their respective sport
  • OVC Academic Awards
    • 17 athletes received OVC Academic Medal of Honor (highest GPA in sport)
    • 88 athletes named to OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll (3.25+ GPA for academic year)
  • Program record 3.11 GPA in Fall 2017 semester, third time in program history it has posted a 3.0+ GPA
    • 204 athletes received academic recognition
    • 107 athletes named to Austin Peay Dean’s List
    • 51 posted perfect 4.0 GPAs
