Shane Tucker is in his second season as the Governors’ pass-game coordinator and wide receivers coach after joining Jeff Faris’ inaugural coaching staff in Jan. 2024.
Tucker, who was the Governors’ tight ends coach during the 2021 COVID-19 spring season, returns to Clarksville after serving on Middle Tennessee’s coaching staff as a wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator since 2022. Before his first stint in Clarksville, Tucker served as an offensive graduate assistant at MTSU in 2020 after working as an assistant strength and conditioning coach and wide receivers coach at Dodge City Community College from 2018-19.
A four-year letterwinner at MTSU, Tucker was the Blue Raiders’ team captain as a senior in 2017, where he compiled 2,031 yards, 28 touchdowns, and four bowl appearances during his collegiate career in Murfreesboro.
Tucker graduated from Middle Tennessee with a bachelor’s degree in leisure sport and tourism in 2017.

Austin Peay (2024-CURRENT)
2024: Named Austin Peay’s recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach in Jan. 2024. Austin Peay’s wide receivers totaled 2,043 receiving yards during his first season back in Clarksville. The wide receiver corps was highlighted by Second Team All-UAC selection Jaden Barnes, who totaled 58 receptions for 1,083 yards and nine touchdowns, posting just the fifth 1,000-yard receiving season in program history. Barnes finished the year with the third-most receiving yards in a season in Austin Peay history and had the sixth-most receiving touchdowns in a single season. He also averaged 90.25 receiving yards per game, which is the seventh-best season in APSU history.
Middle Tennessee (2022-23)
2023: In addition to his duties as Middle Tennessee’s wide receivers coach, Tucker was promoted to the Blue Raiders' recruiting coordinator in Feb. 2023. The Blue Raiders went 4-8 with a 3-5 record in Conference USA play. Middle Tennessee averaged 266.0 passing yards per game during the 2023 season, which was ranked 33rd in the FBS and second in Conference USA. A Second Team All-CUSA selection, Elijah Metcalf led MTSU with 54 receptions and six touchdowns and ranked second on the team with 634 receiving yards.
2022: Returned to his alma mater as the wide receivers coach prior to the 2022 season. Middle Tennessee went 8-5 with a 4-4 Conference USA record and a 25-23 victory against San Diego in the Hawaii Bowl. Jaylin Lane had a team-best 69 receptions, 940 yards, and five receiving touchdowns and was named an All-CUSA Honorable Mention both as a wide receiver and kick returner.
Florida A&M (2021)
2021: Served as Florida A&M’s running backs coach during the 2021 season, in which the Rattlers won the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s East Division with a 9-3 overall record and 7-1 mark in SWAC play. The Rattlers also were the first SWAC team to earn an at-large bid to the FCS Playoffs since 1997. Led by Second Team All-SWAC running back Bishop Bonnett’s 972 yards and five rushing scores and Terrell Jenning’s 517 yards and five touchdowns, the Rattlers’ running backs totaled over 1,500 yards and 14 rushing touchdowns during the 2021 season.
Austin Peay (Spring 2021)
2021: Hired by Scotty Walden as the Governors’ tight ends coach before the six-game, 2021 spring season, in which the Governors went 4-2.
Middle Tennessee (2020)
2020: Was an offensive graduate assistant for his alma mater during the nine-game 2020 season, working primarily with Middle Tennessee’s wide receivers. Harrin Pierce led the Blue Raiders with 59 receptions and 584 receiving yards, while tying for a team-best three receiving touchdowns.
Dodge City Community College (2018-19)
2019: Promoted to wide receivers coach for his second and final season at Dodge City Community College. The Conquistadors averaged 158 passing yards and 16.2 points per game. Daquan Bailey-Brown led DCCC with 718 receiving yards and tallied all six of the team’s receiving touchdowns.
2018: Joined the Conquistadors as an assistant strength and conditioning coach, specializing in speed development for running backs, wide receivers, linebackers, and defensive backs.
COLLEGIATE PLAYING CAREER (2013-17)
Tucker was a four-year letterwinner at Middle Tennessee, making 17 starts in 39 appearances. Spent his first three seasons as a running back before converting to wide receiver for his final two seasons. Made three starts in five appearances as a freshman, rushing 44 times for 241 yards and five touchdowns. Was a Conference USA Honorable Mention as a sophomore with a career-best 486 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, in addition to 25 receptions for 351 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Was named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List – the award given to the top running back in the FBS – prior to a junior season in which he had 127 carries for 413 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 133 receiving yards and one touchdown on 16 receptions. Redshirted during his senior season after suffering an offseason injury. Made eight starts in 11 appearances at wide receiver as a redshirt senior, recording 25 receptions for 381 yards and two touchdowns.
