2014: Made 10 appearances in the trenches, tallying 15 total tackles… made a season-best five stops in the home opener against Chattanooga… had four stops against Eastern Kentucky, including his season’s lone tackle for loss.
2013: Played in 11 games in 2013… briefly shifted from defensive line to offensive line but defensive attrition diverted the change… had at least one tackle in every game but two… had two tackles against Tennessee… had three tackles against UT Martin… had three more tackles against Tennessee Tech.
2012: Made four appearances in 2012… collected three tackles… assisted on stop against Eastern Kentucky… made two tackles, including one solo stop, against Culver-Stockton.
2011: Utilized redshirt season to build more strength via weight room along with learning APSU defensive scheme.
High School: Defensive end and center for Louis Hines at East Literature High School… became first player from school to sign Division I scholarship… chosen all-city… presented Hume Award along with National Football Foundation Award.
Personal: Health major with preprofessional health minor, earned his degree in Spring 2015… son of John and Gayle Houston… born Nov. 11… comes from athletic family… cousin Golden Tate, a former Notre Dame star, is wide receiver for the Detroit Lions while another cousin, Wesley Tate, is now running back at Vanderbilt… cousin Brandon Wright formerly played basketball at North Carolina and is now in NBA… his grandfather, Jeremy White, is the father of the late Reggie White.
