2023: A Phil Steele FCS Fourth Team Freshman All-America selection, he played in 10 games and made nine starts on the defensive line… Had two tackles and half a sack in his collegiate debut at Southern Illinois (Sept. 2)… Recorded four tackles and half a tackle for loss at Tennessee… Tallied four tackles and half a tackle for loss against ETSU (Sept. 16)… Totaled four tackles, a pass breakup, and two quarterback hurries at Stephen F. Austin (Sept. 23)… Posted a career-best six tackles – all solo stops – and two tackles for loss, including a sack, to go along with a pass breakup and blocked field goal at Eastern Kentucky (Nov. 4)… Had three tackles, a tackle for loss, and half a sack against Utah Tech (Nov. 11)… Added three tackles and a sack against Central Arkansas (Nov. 18)… Recorded five tackles in the FCS Playoffs First Round against Chattanooga (Nov. 25)… Finished the season with 32 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, five quarterback hurries, two pass breakups, and a blocked field goal… Ranked third on the team in tackles for loss and sacks.

Personal: Travis David Bates is the son of Jonathan and Mariana Bates… Birthday is Nov. 3… Has three siblings: Jordan, Jake, and Cole… His brothers, Jordan and Jake, both played soccer at Central Arkansas... Jordan finished his college career by transferring to Texas State and then Arkansas to be a kicker on those respective football teams... A kinesiology major.
