Biography

College: Again expected to be part interior defense rotation in 2013... with assortment of injuries, played in seven games in 2012…assisted on tackles against Western Kentucky and Tennessee State…had two tackles (one assist, one solo) against Eastern Illinois and Culver-Stockton, sharing a tackle for loss against Culver-Stockton…the hearing-impaired Gilbreath was named the National Football Foundation Middle Tennessee Chapter’s 2012 Bonnie Sloan Courage Award, named after former Gov great Bonnie Sloan....shifted to defensive tackle in the 2012 spring after playing first two seasons as a defensive end… moved inside to better take advantage of quickness and explosiveness… saw 2011 season hampered by concussion… played in season’s first four games before suffering concussion against Tennessee State… missed season’s next six games before returning for the season finale at Tennessee State… ended season with just five tackles, including two solo stops including two in season opener versus Cincinnati..also credited with quarterback hurry in contest… in 2010, enjoyed solid first season at defensive end… appeared in 11 games and was listed No. 1 on depth chart through season’s first six games… proved to be strong coming off edge, making 23 tackles including 10 solo stops… also had 2.0 tackles-for-loss and a sack… his 23 tackles were most among returning defensive linemen for 2011… 21 tackles came against run… had season-high four tackles, twice… first time came at Wisconsin, where he also had tackle for loss… next four-tackle night came against Southeast Missouri… finally got on football field midway through 2009 after NCAA Clearinghouse issues were resolved… hearing-impaired youngster following in footsteps of former Gov Bonnie Sloan, who overcame hearing problems to become All-OVC choice and NFL football player back in the 1970s… had chance to meet Sloan during Spring 2010.

High School:  Defensive lineman for Walt Smith at Mt. Pleasant High School...named Class A Mr. Football Lineman... chosen first-team All-State by multiple services... selected to play in East-West All-Star game...two-year starter... also selected for "Martin Luther King Jr. Service Award" winner... also played basketball at Mt. Pleasant.

Personal: Criminal justice/homeland security major with health minor... one-time member of Athletics Director’s Honor Roll… son of Constance Gilbreath… brother is Dont’a Hightower, former Alabama star linebacker who is now with New England Patriots… born April 12, 1991… age 22.
