Wes Turner returns for his second season as Austin Peay football staff as director of football operations after five seasons in the same role at Southern Miss.
Turner coordinated and handled a large amount of duties and responsibilities within football logistics ranging from team travel, roster management and communication contact for football. He also coordinated recruiting activity including official and unofficial visits, camps, and fundraising clinics. Turner also served as NFL liaison and point of contact for the scouts, providing necessary information on potential draftees.
Following his graduation from Georgia Southern in 2006, Turner remained with the Eagles as a defensive assistant working with defensive backs for three seasons before joining the staff at Memphis as a defensive graduate assistant. Turner then was hired by Jay Hopson as assistant nickel backs coach at Alcorn State, where he served in multiple capacities, including director of operations, videographer, and recruiting coordinator. While at Alcorn State, he was part of a staff that saw the Braves win the Southwestern Athletic Conference title in both 2014 and 2015 and also win the 2015 Celebration Bowl and claim the 2014 HBCU National Championship.
Originally a walk on, Turner was a three-time letterwinner and team captain in 2006 at Georgia Southern. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in general studies from Georgia Southern. Turner later earned a master’s degree in sport management from Southern Miss in 2020. Turner is married to Stephanie (née Turner) and they have three children, daughters Taylor, Peyton, and a son Mack.
