Career Recap: Austin Peay

As a senior in 2024-25

  • Had a 14-15 overall singles record, going 6-13 in the spring and 8-2 in the fall. 
  • Won four matches from the No. 3 court.
  • Went 12-16 in doubles play, picking up two ASUN wins, both from the third court with Glen Arnet.
  • Had a 6-4 doubles record in fall play. 

As a junior in 2023-24

  • Had a 10-18 overall singles record, going 3-15 in the spring and 7-3 in the fall. 
  • Primarily played from the No. 4 court, going 3-13.
  • Had a 12-11 overall doubles record, going 7-8 from the No. 2 position, all with partner Giovanni Becchis.

As a sophomore in 2022-23:

Spring Season

  • Earned a team-best nine singles victors while tying for a team-best five wins in doubles play.
  • Tied for a team-best three singles and doubles wins in ASUN action.
  • Primarily played singles from the No. 3 court where he earned seven wins.
  • After dropping his first singles match of the season, rallied to win five of his next six matches with his only loss in that streak coming against No. 21 Middle Tennessee’s Baran Soyler.
  • Had a career-high three-straight victories, Feb. 23-March 2, with the first two wins of that streak coming in extended three-set matches.
  • Earned a three-set victory against Lipscomb’s Jake Penny in Austin Peay’s inaugural ASUN match, March 25.
  • Played all but one doubles match alongside Giovanni Becchis where the duo earned a team-best five wins.
  • Won three-straight doubles matches Feb. 3- March 2.

As a freshman in 2021-22:

Spring Season

  • Won five singles and five doubles matches during his freshman campaign, tied for the second-most combined victories on the team.
  • All five singles victories came from the No. 4 position, while four doubles wins came from the No. 2 position and one from the No. 3.
  • Tied for the second-most wins among Governors’ pairings with five alongside freshman counterpart, Giovanni Becchis. 
  • Won four of five doubles matches with Becchis from Feb. 12 to March 26.
  • Named the OVC Doubles Team of the Week with Becchis, March 29, following victories against the University of the Cumberlands (March 23) and North Alabama (March 26).

Fall Season

  • Earned one singles and two doubles victories through three fall tournaments. 
  • Defeated Brescia’s Braedon Christie in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, at the APSU Hidden Duel.
  • Played exclusively with fellow freshman Giovanni Becchis in doubles, picking up a win against Brescia and Southern Indiana.

Prior to Austin Peay
Prepped at Scots College, where he was ranked in the top-10 of the New Zealand U18 junior rankings in December of 2020… Was a National Doubles semifinalist in New Zealand and an International Tennis Federation J5 Doubles Finalist in 2020… Was nationally ranked as the No. 5 U16 player in 2019 and the No. 2 U14 player in 2017… Has climbed as high as No. 1,600 in the ITF Junior Rankings… also played rugby during his prep career.

Son of Robert Bolton and Arlene Smyth… has two siblings, Kate and Alice… his sister, Kate, plays tennis at Stanislaus State in California… born Dec. 29… plans to major in finance or business management.
