The all-time winningest head coach in Austin Peay softball history, Kassie Stanfill enters her eighth season at Austin Peay after being named the program's 10th head coach, Aug. 10, 2018.
Through her first seven seasons, Stanfill has posted a 190-142 record with 26 student-athletes being named All-Conference selections, 25 named College Sports Communications All-District selections, and 64 National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar Athletes.
Stanfill was a four-year starter as a pitcher at Louisville (2006-09), where she helped lead the Cardinals to a 2006 and 2007 BIG EAST Championship and four-straight NCAA Regional appearances.
Stanfill earned a bachelor’s degree in health and sports studies from Louisville in 2009.

Austin Peay (2019-CURRENT)
Prior to the 2026 season: Stanfill agreed to a contract extension through the 2027 season, June 2025.
2025: Stanfill led the Governors to a 39-16 record – tied for the most wins in program history – and a record 14 victories in ASUN Conference play. The 39-win campaign was highlighted by 24-game winning streak that stretched from Feb. 14-March 22 – the longest in the NCAA at that time and also the longest by any Austin Peay Athletics program – and one that bested the previous program record by 11 games. Throughout the winning streak, the Governors also earned the first ranked win in program history in a 5-3 win against No. 22 Florida Atlantic, March 1, at Cathi Maynard Park during the Governors Classic. In the final weekend of the season, the Governors obtained their record 37th regular-season victory and Brie Howard – in the opening game of the series at Lipscomb – tallied the first cycle in program history during an 8-1 win against the Bisons, May 1. The historic mark earned Howard the program’s first ASUN Player of the Week honors. Austin Peay entered the 2025 ASUN Softball Championship as the No. 5 seed and defeated No. 8 Jacksonville 3-0 for its ninth shutout of the season. Two days later, the Govs knocked out the defending champions in Florida Gulf Coast to earn its second postseason victory – its most since joining the ASUN and tied for the second-most in program history. During the historic 2025 campaign, the Governors set single-season records in runs (342), hits (459), doubles (77), home runs (71), total bases (785), slugging percentage (.530), and on-base percentage (.386), while its .310 batting average is the second-best mark in program history. A record nine Governors also earned ASUN postseason honors with first baseman Kylie Campbell and center fielder Brie Howard being named First Team All-ASUN, pitcher Samantha Miener and designated player Sammie Shelander named Second Team All-ASUN, and a pair of transfers from FGCU – shortstop Kayleigh Roper and catcher Sam Leski – earning Third Team All-ASUN recognition. Campbell, Macee Roberts, and Ashley Martin also earned ASUN All-Academic Team recognition. Roberts went on to receive NFCA Third Team All-South Region honors for APSU as a third base, becoming the ninth player in program history to be named an NFCA All-Region recipient. Off the field, Campbell, Roberts, Howard, Roper, and Leski also earned CSC Academic All-District recognition. The Governors also extended their streak of semesters with a 3.0 GPA to 20, as 25 student-athletes were named to the Dean’s List and another 13 were selected to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.
2024: Stanfill became the all-time winningest head coach in program history following a 9-4 victory against IUPUI, March 2, 2024. The win, the 135th of her career in Clarksville, moved her past Chris Austin (1992-98). Austin Peay earned 23 victories during the 2024 season and advanced to the 2024 Atlantic Sun Conference Softball Tournament where they fell to North Alabama in the first round. Junior first baseman Kylie Campbell was named a First Team All-ASUN selection, while pitcher Jordan Benefiel and outfielder Brie Howard were both named Third Team All-ASUN, with Howard also being tabbed to the ASUN All-Freshman Team. Off the field, Austin Peay had five student-athletes – Jordan Benefiel, Kylie Campbell, Megan Hodum, Macee Roberts, Kendyl Weinzapfel – also earned CSC Academic All-District recognition with 15 also being tabbed NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes.
2023: The Governors advanced to the Atlantic Sun Conference Softball Tournament in their first season as a league affiliate after posting a 27-24 record and a 12-12 mark in ASUN play. Austin Peay earned its first postseason win as a member of the league following a 2-1 victory against host Stetson. Individually, Lexi Osowski Anderson earned Second Team All-ASUN, while Kylie Campbell was a Third Team All-ASUN selection after posting a 1.000 fielding percentage by not committing an error in 325 total chances. Nineteen student-athletes earned NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete honors, and five were tabbed CSC Academic All-District recipients.
2022: Austin Peay’s final season as a member of the Ohio Valley Conference saw Leski Osowski-Anderson become the second player in program history – and first since Andrea Miller (1995) – to earn OVC Player of the Year honors while also being tabbed a First Team All-OVC, First Team NFCA Midwest Region, and Third Team CoSIDA (currently CSC) Academic All-American selection. Osowski-Anderson was joined on the All-OVC Team by Second Team selections Jordan Benefield (pitcher) and Kylie Campbell (designated player), with Campbell also earning an OVC All-Newcomer Team selection. The Governors went 30-23 with a 17-11 record in OVC play, Stanfill’s second 30-win season at Austin Peay, and just the fourth in program history. Additionally, 13 student-athletes earned NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
2021: Stanfill went 27-16 and 22-11 in Ohio Valley Conference play during her third season as head coach. Pitcher and first baseman Kelsey Gross was named to a First Team NFCA Central Region selection while Leski Osowski-Anderson was a member of the organization’s Third Team as a shortstop. Pitcher Jordan Benefiel was tabbed as the OVC Freshman of the Year – APSU’s fourth in program history – in addition to being a second team all-OVC and OVC all-newcomer team selection. Osowski-Anderson also earned First Team honors, while Gross was a Second Team recipient.
2020: Stanfill’s second season at Austin Peay was cut to just 23 games due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the Governors posting an 11-12 mark prior to the start of conference play. Austin Peay ended the season following a 10-2 win against Siena, March 11.
2019: nStanfill was Athletics Director Gerald Harrison's first hire at Austin Peay. In her first season in 2019, the Govs finished a game out of tying for the OVC regular-season championship, posting a 16-6 record in conference play, while setting program single-season records for hits (437), doubles (76), home runs (61), total bases (714), slugging percentage (.475) and RBIs (257). Stanfill also saw five players receive All-OVC recognition in her first year, with Morgan Rackel (pitcher), Danielle Liermann (utility), Kacy Acree (outfield) and Carly Mattson (catcher) earning first-team honors, while Osowski-Anderson earned second-team All-OVC and All-OVC newcomers team selections. Rackel also became the program’s first Google Cloud Academic All-America ® Division I First team selection, and Softball America named Liermann to its All-American second team, while Rackel, Liermann, and Osowski were selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s Central Region third team.
Louisville (2017-18)
2018: Spent two seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater under head coach Sandy Pearsall, who retired following the 2018 season after beginning the program in 2000. During her two seasons in Louisville, Kentucky, Stanfill primarily worked with the Cardinals’ pitchers while also assisting the defense and development of slap hitters. Louisville went 33-20 with a 10-12 record in Atlantic Coast Conference action before falling to Florida State in the ASUN Quarterfinals.
2017: Helped guide the Cardinals to a 31-19 record and 14-8 mark in ACC play, finishing second during the regular season and earned five All-ACC honors.
Illinois (2016)
2016: Stanfill was hired by former Ball State head coach Tyra Perry as an associate head coach, July 22, 2015, and coached alongside Perry for the 2016 season. During that season, Stanfill primarily worked with the Illini’s pitchers and catchers, helping guide the program to a 36-23 overall record – the fifth-most wins in program history – and an NCAA Regional appearance.
Ball State (2013-15)
2015: Stanfill spent three seasons as an assistant coach and pitching coach at Ball State for head coach Tyra Perry. Ball State won its third-straight MAC West Division Championship after going 34-25 and 14-5 in league play. The Cardinals also won the MAC Tournament Championship to advance to the South Bend Regional, where they earned a 6-3 win over host Notre Dame.
2014: Helped guide the Cardinals to a 33-19 record and 12-4 mark in MAC play, with BSU earning its fifth MAC Regular-Season Championship in the past six seasons. During conference play, the Cardinals led the MAC with a 2.06 ERA, with her pitchers combining to throw seven complete-game shutouts, including a 3-0 win at No. 3 Arizona State. That season, sophomore pitcher Nicole Steinbach earned her second-straight Second Team All-MAC honor, while her pitchers combined to earn five MAC West Division Pitcher of the Week accolades.
2013: In her first season on the Cardinals’ staff, Stanfill helped lead the program to a 37-17 record, an 18-3 record in MAC action, and the program’s fourth MAC Regular-Season Championship. Her primary responsibility in 2013 was working with the Cardinals’ outfielders, where she helped junior left fielder Jennifer Gilbert become the first All-American in program history with a Third Team All-America honor in addition to her NFCA Coaches Association.
Middle Tennessee (2012)
2012: Stanfill began her collegiate coaching career at Middle Tennessee, where she was responsible for the development of hitters and outfielders. During her lone season in Murfreesboro, she helped lead the Blue Raiders offense to a program-record 41 home runs, while also improving the team’s batting average from .247 to .272.
STANFILL’S PLAYING CAREER
2006-09: Stanfill was a four-year starter for the Cardinals from 2006 through 2009 and served as a two-time team captain. She played several positions throughout her career, splitting time between the outfield and pitcher her first three seasons. After injury forced an early end to her pitching career, Stanfill became the Cardinals’ starting first baseman in 2009. The two-time All-Big East Third Team selection was a .293 career hitter and posted a 27-13 record in 68 pitching appearances with a 2.72 ERA and 227 strikeouts. She still ranks in the school’s career top 10 in several categories including: triples, saves, strikeouts (pitching), lowest ERA and opponent batting average and games finished.
