Lee Dobbins enters his second season as an assistant coach for the softball program under head coach Casey Dickson.
Dobbins, a former head coach at a pair of Division II programs who also has extensive Division I experience, heads up recruiting along with coaching the pitchers and catchers.
In his first year at APSU, the team's ERA dropped 2.16 from the previous season (5.75 to 3.59), while also seeing the pitching staff give up 22 fewer extra-base hits and striking out almost two more opposing batters per game.
He formerly was the first head coach at Texas A&M International University (Laredo, Texas) in 2007. He also was head coach at Lander College in 2005-06. In between those two positions, he was director of softball operations at Tennessee-Chattanooga.
Prior to taking the head-coaching reigns at Lander, Dobbins gained experience as an assistant at Tusculum College (2002-04) and Tennessee-Chattanooga (2004-05). He broke into the college ranks as student assistant at Chattanooga State Technical Community College (1996-97) and Tennessee (1999-01).
In addition to coaching, Dobbins also has recent experience as the executive director of the Ace Softball Inc. College Softball Fun-In-The-Sun Classic. That Bradenton, Fla. tournament draws college teams from all NCAA Divisions throughout the country.
Dobbins has international experience as a Head Coach of Athletes International College Goodwill Team (Munich, Germany). He has served as camp instructor and camp director at several high level college camps throughout the southeast the several years.
A Chattanooga native, Dobbins attained a bachelor's in communications from the University of Tennessee.
