Clarksville, Tenn.– Senior forward Chris Porter-Bunton, of the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

The Bowling Green, Ky.,  native averaged 16.0 points and 9.5 rebounds for the Govs against Troy and Alabama A&M, hitting 60.0 percent (12-of-20) from the floor—including a perfect 6-of-6 night Saturday against the Bulldogs.

Against Troy, Porter-Bunton was the reason Austin Peay was able to force overtime—with the Govs down three with 1:49 remaining, he ripped off an 8-0 run almost by himself, scoring a lay-up to cut it to one and then securing a steal and feeding Dayton Gumm for the go-ahead bucket; he also sank two free-throws and had a putback bucket to make it a five-point game with 57 seconds left. He finished with 16 points and a career-high 15 boards for his second career double-double to help secure Austin Peay's first true non-conference road win since 2015. He also scored 16 points against Alabama A&M.

Porter-Bunton’s performance earned him Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors for the first time in his Austin Peay career.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Junior forward Arielle Gonzalez-Varner, of the women’s basketball team, averaged 13.3 points on 50.0 percent (14-of-28) shooting and added 6.7 rebounds per game for the Govs last week, including a 16-point, 12-board performance at Western Illinois.
  • Senior pole vaulter Savannah Amato, of the track and field team, opened her final indoor campaign with a 3.95m mark at the Vanderbilt Opener, taking second among collegiate competitors.
