Clarksville, Tenn.– Senior outfielder Kacy Acree, of the Austin Peay State University softball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Acree opened her final campaign by destroying opposing pitching at the UAB Invitational last week. The Riverside, California, native hit .533 with 11 RBI, paced by two doubles and two homers on the week. She drove in a run in all five of Austin Peay’s contests in Birmingham.

Acree began her senior season with a 2-for-2 performance against ULM, cranking a homer and driving in four runs in a 10-0 win, then went 2-for-3 with another bomb and four RBI in an 18-4 drubbing of the host Blazers.

Acree’s dominant performance earned her the first Ohio Valley Conference Softball Player of the Week honor of the 2019 season, the first of her Austin Peay career.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Sophomore Sabrina Richman, of the track and field team, placed third out of 67 runners in the 200m dash at the Samford Open, posting a personal-best 24.43 mark to move into third in the event among OVC competitors; she’s now a top-three performer in both the 200m and 400m events. She also ran a leg of Austin Peay’s winning 4x400m relay team which took over the top spot in the league standings.
  • Senior Claudia Yanes Garcia, of the women’s tennis team, earned the first OVC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honor after going 4-0 last week, with two wins in singles and doubles against foes from Cumberland and Central Arkansas to help the Govs improve to 6-0 on the season.
  • Sophomore forward Terry Taylor, of the men’s basketball team, scored his 1,000th career point last week after averaging 23.5 points on 59.3 percent shooting from the floor and chipped in 9.0 boards per game against SIU Edwardsville and Eastern Illinois.
  • Junior forward Arielle Gonzalez-Varner, of the women’s basketball team, averaged a double-double (12.5 ppg, 11.0 rpg) for the Govs against SIU Edwardsville and Eastern Illinois last week, including a 13-point, 14-rebound performance in Thursday night’s win against the Cougars.
