Clarksville, Tenn.–Freshman Taylor Dedmen, of the Austin Peay State University women’s golf team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Just a few miles from her native Dade City, Dedmen shattered the previous program 54-hole record with a five-under 208 at Lake Jovita Golf Club, taking runner-up honors as an individual. In the process, she became the first player in program history to record two sub-70 rounds in the same tournament.

Dedmen’s 208 was 13 shots better than the previous program record. She helped the Govs set team records in single-round (287) and 54-hole (872) scoring.

Wednesday, Dedmen was named Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week; it’s her first honor as a Governor and the first by an Austin Peay freshmen women’s golfer since 2013 (Jessica Cathey).

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Junior Maya Perry-Grimes, of the track and field team, swept the jump events to open outdoor season at the Coastal Carolina Invitational, taking the top spot in the triple jump (11.98m) and long jump (5.71m), with the long jump mark the best by a Gov since 2017.
  • Senior forward Chris Porter-Bunton, of the men’s basketball team, averaged 22.5 points on 65.4 percent (17-of-26) shooting at the 2019 OVC Tournament, scoring a career-high 27 points in the quarterfinal win against Morehead State—including the 1,000th of his Austin Peay career.
  • Junior pitcher Jacques Pucheu, of the baseball team, tossed eight innings of two-hit, shutout ball in the series opener against Murray State, striking out seven for his season’s second win.
  • Senior utility player Morgan Rackel, of the softball team, scattered three hits over five innings for a win in Game One against North Alabama and slammed her season’s fourth home run for good measure against the Lions.
  • Junior Michael Busse, of the men’s golf team, earned his second top-10 finish of the spring with a 10th-place showing at the Jackrabbit Invitational in Boulder City, Nevada—he carded a 222 (77-74-71), including a one-under 71 on the final day of competition.
