CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.– Junior defensive back Kordell Jackson, of the Austin Peay State University football team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Jackson returned to interceptions—a 29-yarder in the third quarter and a game-clinching 69-yarder in the fourth—for touchdowns at Mercer, becoming the first player in school history and 33rd player in FCS history with two pick-sixes in the same game. He also wrangled Mercer quarterback Robert Riddle for a strip-sack on the Bears’ final drive.

A Birmingham, Alabama native, Jackson was an easy choice for both Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week and Tennessee Sports Writers Association Defensive Player of the Week.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Athletic Communications staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Junior Fabienne Schmidt, of the women’s tennis team, took the top flight title at the 2019 APSU Fall Invitational, taking straight-set wins in the semifinals (6-4, 6-1 over Chattanooga’s Jessie Young) and finals (6-4, 7-5 against Southeast Missouri’s Romana Tarajova) for the championship.
  • Junior outside hitter Chloe Stitt, of the volleyball team, was named All-Tournament at the Mizzou Invitational after recording 55 total kills—including a career-best 20 against Northern Iowa.
  • Senior defender Renee Semaan, of the soccer team, scored a goal and helped hold Evansville to three shots on net in Sunday’s 2-0 Senior Day win against Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.
  • Senior Meghann Stamps, of the women’s golf team, led a trio of top-10 finishers with a third-place showing at the Greenbrier Invitational. Stamps shot 221 (74-71-76) to pace the Govs to a third-place team finish.
