Senior Chloe Stitt, of the volleyball team, has been this week’s Austin Peay Athlete of the Week.

Stitt had a career day vs the Racers of Murray State last Sunday. Chloe is our premier athlete of the week because of her amazing 26 kill game against the Racers. Her efforts helped the Govs topple the Racers 3-1 in Sunday’s game against Austin Peay’s archrival. She was only eight kills away from the school record for most kills in one match.

Austin Peay was tied at one set a piece going into the third set, which is when Stitt took control of the match. In the third set she scored seven kills and two blocks, helping the Govs win the third set. She was even better in the fourth set, helping the Govs clinch the match with eight kills and two blocks. With 26 kills, Stitt led all hitters and was responsible for a significant portion of the Govs' 62 kills in the match.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

Senior Fabienne Schmidt, of the women’s tennis team, went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles last week in matches against North Alabama and Illinois State. She won her team-best fourth singles match while playing in the No. 1 position against North Alabama, giving her a three-match winning streak. In doubles play, she has a perfect 5-0 record this season when paired with Danielle Morris.

Senior shortstop Brooke Pfefferle, of the softball team, led the Govs in batting average (.500), hits (4), slugging percentage (1.000), and on-base percentage (.636) in last weekend’s series at Southeast Missouri. In the series opener, she reached base four times, falling a triple shy of the cycle while adding a walk. With two walks and a single in the second game of the season, he reached base three times out of four at bats.

Junior forward Rachel Bradberry, of the women’s soccer team, started the Govs' season-opening match against Tennessee Tech and took a shot in the game. On March 5, she came off the bench to score her first goal of the season in the 73rd minute against SIUE. Austin Peay nearly pulled off a comeback in Edwardsville after her goal against SIUE pulled the Governors within one goal of the Cougars.

Senior Jacob Lorino, of the men’s tennis team, won his team-best third singles match in the Governors' loss to North Alabama. In the No. 5 singles spot for the Govs, he is currently on a three-match winning streak.

Senior forward Terry Taylor, of the men’s basketball team, poured in 19 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in his final appearance as a Governor against Eastern Kentucky at the 2021 OVC Men’s Basketball Championship.
