Clarksville, Tenn. – Freshman midfielder McKenzie Dixon, of the Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team, have been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
Dixon earned her second adidas®/Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor in as many weeks, netting goals against Kennesaw State and Alabama State in a pair of APSU victories last week. She also added two assists to give her six points on the week and a team-high 12 on the season—all coming in the last three games.
The Bentonville, Arkansas native opened her weekend with a free kick goal from 25 yards out against the Owls, and followed that up by slamming home a rebound in Sunday’s 10-2 win against Alabama State. All told, the Austin Peay offense has scored 20 goals in its last three matches, with Dixon accounting for five of those goals, in the process becoming the first player in APSU history to win the conference’s weekly offensive award in back-to-back weeks.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:
- Junior defender Mary Ruth Locastro, of the women’s soccer team, netted her season’s first goal in Sunday’s match-up against the Hornets, heading in a corner kick after moving up from center back, earning OVC Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts, a first in her career and marking the first time since Gina Fabbro (offensive) and Shelby Olszewski (defensive) won for the week of Sept. 17, 2013 that Austin Peay players earned both offensive and defensive honors from the conference.
- Freshman Lidia Yanes Garcia, of the women’s tennis team, won the singles championship at the APSU Fall Invitational, maintaining her unbeaten fall record with a 4-0 showing at home, including a defeat of 2015 All-OVC pick’s Sarah Candeloro (6-7, 6-3, 10-3) in the semifinals and Hitomi Naito (2-6, 6-4, 10-1) in the championship match.
- Sophomore middle blocker Ashley Slay, of the volleyball team, was named to the Tiger Invitational All-Tournament team, posting a career-best 19 kills in Austin Peay’s five-set win against Southern Miss, a match that also saw her tie her career-high with eight blocks.
