CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Austin Peay State University women's basketball coach Andy Blackston began his first full recruit-
ing season, Thursday, signing Amber Bacon, of Millington.
Bacon, a 5-7 shooting guard, was the leading scorer in District 14-3A last season, averaging 16.5 points a game and
leading Millington Central to a 21-10 mark. She shot 38 percent from three-point range and also grabbed 4.9 rebounds,
dished out 2.6 assists and collected 1.9 steals per contest. She will join former Millington Central teammate
Alicia Watson,
who is a sophomore for the Lady Govs this season.
"We are real excited to add Amber to our plans," said Blackston. "She can really shoot the ball and is a pure shooter. That's
one of the fun things about basketball is to see someone shoot. We saw her at the AAU (16U National Championships) in
Cocoa Beach, Fla. and were impressed with how she played."
Bacon will add depth at a position filled with established players. She will join current sophomores
Kera Bergeron, Watson
and
Ashley Haynes at a deep and talented shooting guard spot.
"Amber will add depth, but the way we play there isn't a lot of difference between a two-guard and a three-guard," said
Blackston. "Anytime you can get kids who can shoot you have to do your best to add them to your team. But Amber adds a lot
more than just shooting. She is very quick, can move her feet and has poise. She's never in a hurry. She's a true basketball
player who can read situations and knows what to do with the ball in those situations."
