CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Austin Peay State University will bring four candidates to campus next week in its
search for a new head women's basketball coach.
All four candidates currently are assistants at their respective NCAA Division I institutions. They are: Quacy
Barnes, assistant coach at Austin Peay;
Carrie Daniels, assistant coach at Western Kentucky; Jody Adams,
assistant coach at Southern Illinois, and Jennifer Hoover, assistant coach at Virginia. Additional candidates could
be added to the list.
"We were impressed by the quality of our pool of coaching candidates," APSU Athletics Director
Dave Loossaid. "We believe we are bringing a particularly strong group to campus and are confident we will find the right fit
for this program."
Two of the candidates have Austin Peay ties. Barnes just completed her first season as an Austin Peay
assistant coach after serving two seasons at her alma mater, Indiana. That followed a five-year WNBA career,
which began with the Seattle Storm, coached by APSU Hall of Fame member Lin Dunn..
Daniels is the former Carrie Thompson, who played guard for the Lady Govs from 1991-96, helping lead
APSU to its first NCAA tournament appearance in 1996. She also received the Female Joy Award as APSU's
most valuable senior athlete. Daniels just completed her seventh season as a WKU assistant after previously
working three seasons at UNLV.
Adams has Tennessee ties as well. A Cleveland native, she played point guard for Pat Head Summitt in the
early 1990s and was a part of the 1991 national championship team. She just completed her second season at
SIU after serving from 2000-01 to 2003-04 as assistant at Missouri-Kansas City. Adams was the 2003 AFLAC
National Assistant Coach of the Year. Previously, she was an assistant at Minnesota (1997-2000) and Auburn
(1994-96).
Hoover, who just completed her third season at Virginia, also has a link to the Volunteer State, serving as an
assistant at Memphis in 2002-03. Prior to that she was an assistant at James Madison (2000-02), helping lead
that club to the WNIT Final Four. A Wake Forest graduate (1991) where she was the school's all-time scoring and
rebounding leader, Hoover began her coaching career at Missouri-Kansas City (1994-96) before heading to
Virginia Commonwealth (1996-98) and later East Carolina (1998-2000).
Adams' interview with the search committee will take place Tuesday morning followed by Barnes that
afternoon.Daniels will interview Wednesday afternoon with Hoover's occurring Thursday morning. The search
committee consists of Loos, Cheryl Hot, senior women's administrator;
Bruce Myers, faculty athletics
representative, and Bubba Wells, assistant men's basketball coach.
The Austin Peay coaching position became available in early May when Andy Blackston resigned after three
seasons to become athletics director and boys' basketball coach at Madison (Ala.) Academy.
APSU finished the 2005-06 season with a 15-13 record and a fourth-place 12-8 Ohio Valley Conference
mark.
