CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Austin Peay State University freshman utility man Ryan Gilboy was named to the 2006
Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-America team as selected by Collegiate Baseball, Thursday. He is the Govs second first-
team selection, joining alumnus A.J. Ellis who received first-team honors in 2000.
Gilboy, of Racine, Wis., finished the 2006 campaign leading the Govs with a .366 batting average, tops among Ohio
Valley Conference freshmen and sixth among all conference hitters. He also led the Govs and ranked among the OVC top
10 in slugging percentage (.526, 8th) and runs batted in per game (0.96, 3rd). He was a first-team All-OVC selection as a
utility player and picked up all-freshmen team honors. Gilboy started in 49 games, making 23 starts at second base, six at
first base, four at third base and 16 as the team's designated hitter.
"I am extremely pleased that Ryan has been selected to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team," said
Govs head coach Gary McClure. "This is a tremendous honor and places him among the finest freshman players at the
NCAA Division I level. Ryan is a hard worker with an exceptional mental approach, and he is very focused both on and off
the field. He had a great year for us and we look for more big things from him in the future."
Gilboy finished his freshman campaign as the school-record holder for RBI by a freshman, his 54 RBI far surpassing
the mark of 43 set by Lance Wampler during the 1997 season. His batting average ranks third-best by a Govs freshman,
trailing Greg Tubbs (.375, 1981) and A.J. Ellis (.368, 2000).
