CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Austin Peay State University women's soccer team lost, 1-0, to Tennessee-Martin, Sunday, in Ohio Valley Conference action. The loss dropped Austin Peay to 6-8 overall and 0-5 in OVC play, while UT Martin improved to 8-4-2 with a 3-1-2 league mark.
The Lady Govs offense was anemic as they recorded only five shots, with none on goal. Junior Ashley Beck had a pair of shots that went high while junior Elyse Lovelace added two shots ? including a free kick in the box ? that also went high. Sophomore keeper Michelle Smith had seven stops in net.
Tennessee-Martin's Kendall Straessle had the game's only goal in the 61st minute. A header by Jamie Price was knocked down by Smith, Sarah Bedell came up with rebound and Straessle punched it into the back of net for the game-winner.
The Skyhawks fired 16 shots, landing eight on goal. Straessle finished with three shots, two on goal and the score. Katie Behrens had three shots, all on goal, while Sophie Cox added four shots.
Austin Peay returns to action with the OVC Alabama swing, playing a 7 p.m., Friday match at Jacksonville State and a 2 p.m., Sunday match at Samford.
